November 15th Letter from Mr. Kelly
November 15, 2019
Friday of the Thirty-second Week in Ordinary Time
Dear SJS Catholic School Community,
Thank you for all your support for our upcoming SOAR Dinner. Sold out for the 2nd year in a row! Many come to the event to enjoy the delicious meal provided by Pasta Amore. Some attend because of the live music provided by SJS alum Pat O and The Show. And some enjoy the silent auction. But I think most attend SOAR because they understand the positive impact the event has on the school. The funds simply have a direct positive effect for the kids. And if you are not able to make it to the event you can still bid online and purchase raffles. But, an event like SOAR is a tremendous amount of work; there are so many details to coordinate. I want to thank the SOAR volunteers and office staff for all their hard work. The fruits of your labor will be seen next weekend, and the profits will help SJS. And a special thank you goes out to Mrs. Howard. Her efforts have simply been remarkable. Her determination to make the event a success is clear to see. Her energy and enthusiasm for the event is undeniable. And her attention to detail and organization should be the envy of all of us. I’m confident the event will be both fun, and financially successful, and in large part this is due to Mrs. Howard. We are indeed blessed to have her leading the SOAR event.
In a recent letter the benefits of a good night sleep for kids were discussed. It’s interesting how some pieces of advice stand the test of time. Our moms and grandmas were right! Something else to consider is breakfast. Kids who eat a good breakfast: concentrate better, have better problem-solving skills, have better hand-eye coordination, stay more alert, and can be more creative. That’s just another item to consider as you start your school day.
Congratulations on a job well done to our 7th and 8th graders who put on a fine musical performance this week that focused on Veterans Day. Thank you to the students and the junior high teachers for their hard work. A special thanks goes to Ms. Pohlmann for all of her efforts in making the show a success. The program illustrates the clear desire we have at SJS to make sure students are receiving a well-rounded education. We value the fine arts at SJS, in addition students receive instruction in technology, PE, and foreign language, all on top of our rigorous academic and religion core classes.
We will soon be into 2020 and will be looking to add new members to our SJS School family. Time does fly by. Perhaps you have a neighbor or friend that would be a good fit. The power of a parent’s testimony cannot be overestimated. If there is someone you think we should contact about SJS feel free to call or email the school office. Thanks for all you do for SJS.
Peace,
William Kelly
