May 1 Letter from Mr. Kelly
Dear SJS Catholic School Community,
May 1st! We have made it to May and are in the final few weeks of school. This is still an important time of the school year as we want to gain as many skills as possible and review the important ones as well. Thank you for your help in keeping the students focused on school. It is indeed sad that we have not been able to be together this quarter, but our faith calls us to look towards the future with a sense of hope. So as the days get longer, and the temperature goes up, we remain a hopeful people praying for a quick return to normal. On the topic of prayer, there is a unified call for prayer today at 2:00– bishops and Catholics around the country will be praying for the sick, vulnerable, and a cure for this illness, please join in prayer if you can.
It’s very exciting that Mass will be offered again at churches starting May 4th. There are new regulations and precautions the churches will be implementing. For more information feel free to consult the parish websites and bulletins.
National Teacher Appreciation Day is Tuesday May 5th. We are blessed with outstanding teachers at SJS. I see evidence of the hard work and dedication of our teachers every day, and this new online environment has shown their skill and willingness to adapt. I see teachers working diligently to deliver effective lessons and assessments. And teachers do so much beyond just teach-they show our students what it means to be faithful to one’s call and mission. Please take a moment next week to thank our SJS teaching staff for all they do for our students and school.
New students are always welcome at SJS, and parents who can speak of the value of a SJS education are powerful recruiters. I had a new family request information just yesterday, because a current family spoke of the benefits of a SJS education. Thanks for spreading the word and helping the school to grow. The job of recruiter is best filled by us all- everyone who is interested in a successful SJS.
As you buy uniforms for next school year please remember all uniform items are to be purchased at a uniform store, or uniform section of a department store. It is wise to consult the Dennis Uniform website prior to purchasing. So pants, shirts, and shorts should be uniform pants, shirts, and shorts, not just the correct color. We are also working on an arrangement with Digiorgio Uniform to be our exclusive sweatshirt vendor, with sweatshirts being available at SJS. More on that to come.
Be on the lookout for an email next week about returning school textbooks and picking up student belongings. We will arrange for a few days for this process. Because we have staff in the building it is best that we don’t have parents coming in to pick up belonging just yet. Thanks for your support.
Peace,
William Kelly
