Health Screening
This year we will be performing school health screens on students in grades 1st through 4th. This is per Nebraska guidelines. The health screens will occur on Tuesday, October 20th and Wednesday, October 21st. Students from Methodist School of Nursing will be helping with these screens in addition to individuals who have volunteered. The screens will include vision, hearing, dental, height, weight, and blood pressure. All safety precautions in place will remain in place during these screens and any equipment will be sanitized between students. In addition if you choose not to have your student screened, you will need to submit documentation from a healthcare provider within the last 6 months which include results for these tests to the school nurse. If you have any questions or concerns please notify the school nurse @ jheiman@sjsomaha.org. |

2020 Fall Book Fair News… It’s that time of year again. Our Fall Book Fair begins next week, Thursday, October 15th and goes through Wednesday, October 28th. Things will look a little differently this year. After much thought and consideration, we have decided to have a completely virtual book fair so our students, families, and friends can remain safe in these uncertain times. Information can be found below. The book fairs are an important source of revenue for the library. We not only purchase books, but also pay for two of the subscriptions used by the entire school (Scholastic Go and Bookflix). I graciously ask that you participate in the book fair as if you were attending an in-person fair. Scholastic has made some changes to online orders. All orders will be shipped directly to your homes. Shipping on book orders over $25 is free. If you have items other than books in your order, you will pay a nominal shipping fee. Our representative suggested that if you have at least $25 in books and then add other items (pencils, erasers, etc.) that you make two orders. Include only the books on one order and the other items on a different order. The shipping fee is nominal, but there is a weight consideration at some point which can raise your shipping cost, which is why she suggested splitting orders, especially if you have a large number of books. The students are extremely excited about the book fair! In fact, it was one of the first things they asked me about in August. They were also very creative and tried to come up with ways we could have an in-person fair, but unfortunately it just won’t work this fall. Hopefully things will change in the spring. I will still show the book trailers and have fliers if students want them. Otherwise, you may view the fliers at the following links:

BASKETBALL EVALUATION CLARIFICATION
The only group of students with large enough numbers to create two teams was the 7th grade boys. This means that no other grade, or group, has to have evaluations. Due to the uncertain circumstances of how basketball is going to look, and the guidelines PAL is working to adopt for basketball season, we are postponing these evaluations until Oct. 11th from 1:00-2:30 at Roncalli. The only group that will need to attend is the 7th grade boys and they will receive a separate email regarding this process. Sorry for any confusion.
If you have any questions email or call Sammie Becker at sjsad17@gmail.com or 402-661-9862. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
