7 October Letter from Mr. Kelly

Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary

Be on the lookout for a link to sign up for Parent/Teacher Conferences.  As we have done in the past, the signups are all online and will be first come, first served.  So, if there is a particular time you are looking for on the 27th you would be best served by opening that email and signing up quickly.  Conferences are an important tool for our staff as the connection with home is so very important.  As such, the first semester conferences are mandatory for all families.

As a school we want to make the liturgy an important part of the week and meaningful to the students.  It is difficult to do so though when the students only attend Mass during the week.  (Parents are welcome to join us for school Masses as well).  We encourage you to make the Mass an important regular part of your weekend.  Mass times at St. James and St. Elizabeth Ann can be found on their websites.

We are excited for our upcoming SOAR Dinner.  New items are rolling in every week.  Thanks so much to those who have donated.  We still are in need of gift cards, auction items, and sponsors.  I think SOAR can also be a learning tool for our students.  They get to see Catholic values in action–parents who are dedicated to their Catholic school.  Those impressions you are making with the students are powerful and will help create the next generation of Catholic leaders.  We truly are blessed with a dedicated community.  Thanks for all you do.

At SJS we don’t serve others because they are Catholic.  We serve others because we are Catholic.  This idea is made clear through the annual coat drive.  So you can clean out your closets and donate your clean and gently used coats, hats, and mittens.  All will be sent to the St. Vincent De Paul Society for their coat give away in November.  Donations can be dropped in the collection boxes at SJS during school hours October 10-17th.  This is one way we can be Jesus for others.

In previous years we have made the teachers into ice cream sundaes, we have slimed the teachers, and held a “Wheel of Misfortune” as raffle sales incentives.  But, we have discovered a favorite incentive for sales.  If we reach our raffle ticket sales goal of 5000 tickets, we will end the school year one full day early and make our final day May 18th with a 10:30 dismissal.  By May generally everyone is looking forward to summer break.  Thanks for your continued support.  If you need more raffle tickets just contact the office.

As the weather gets colder you might be in need of a new uniform sweatshirt.  DiGiorgio’s is our exclusive sweatshirt vendor.  They are also strong school supporters.  Check out their store location or online at- https://www.digiorgios.com/ .  It’s also wise to put the student’s name on the inside of the sweatshirt.

Peace,
William Kelly
