22 October Virtual Backpack

There are a variety of ways that you can give to our SOAR fundraiser. Please visit the SOAR website to purchase dinner tickets and raffles. Thanks for spreading the word about our largest fundraiser of the year to family and friends! We appreciate all you do for our church and school!

Volunteer Opportunities We are in great need of high school and college aged students to work the St. James/Seton School SOAR Development Dinner on November 20th at Creighton Prep High School.

Volunteer needs include: wait staff, check-in/registration/check-out volunteers, raffle ticket sales people. It would be nice to have SJS alumni, but we are grateful for any student that wants to be involved. There is also options for guests attending the event to stay and help clean after or help with check-out following the live auction. Please contact thoward@sjsomaha.org or sign up directly on iVolunteer. Any help is appreciated!  https://stjamesseton.ivolunteer.com/event_241

Home and School will be providing goodie bags, snacks and a meal for all teachers at Parent/Teacher Conferences.  This year Best Bison will be catering the meal and all monetary donations will go to help cover that cost.  We will need some items donated for the goodie bags, desserts and drinks.  Remember if you purchase items that equals 1 hour of parent volunteer hours.  If you have any questions please contact Crystal Anderson, crystal_anderson05@yahoo.com.  Check out iVolunteer for volunteer opportunities https://stjamesseton.ivolunteer.com/event_240.

Book Fair It’s that time of year again! Our Scholastic Book Fair is just around the corner – October 22nd – 29th. The Scholastic Book Fair is not only fun for our students, but it gets books into hands, allows students to experience a variety of authors and genres, and provides new books for our school library. I am typically able to purchase $1000 worth of books during the fair with proceeds from the fair. I also am able to pay for Scholastic Go and Bookflix, two databases that all students use. It’s a lot of work, but so rewarding.

I am pleased that we will be able to have a somewhat normal Book Fair this year: the fair will be open before and after school, as well as all day during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Remember we are masks encouraged at SJS. We should also try and maintain a three-foot social distance while shopping. The fair will be spread out a little more than usual so that we can all shop safely.

I am in need of volunteers to help make this a success.

The available times are located on iVolunteer @ https://stjamesseton.ivolunteer.com/event_243. I will need two adults before and after school, as well as two during each of the shifts during Parent/Teacher Conferences. I also would like student volunteers (7th and 8th grade only, please) during the same times. Students will help sell the trinkets as well as assist shoppers. I will train the adults on the cash registers (don’t worry – it’s really easy!).

I encourage you to volunteer if you are in need of service hours (or even if you aren’t!). It’s a fun experience and a way to meet other parents and students. The shifts during Parent/Teacher Conferences are for two hours, but you can let me know if you would like to work, but can’t commit to two hours. I really appreciate any time you can give me.

I’m looking forward to a successful fair this year. We were unable to have an in-person fair last fall and we just didn’t have the sales we usually do in the fall. I discovered that we are definitely an in-person school! Our spring fair surpassed my expectations, but again, wasn’t a typical fair since we couldn’t allow parents in the building to shop. I’m hoping everyone will be excited to return and shop in person.

Please let me know if you have any questions (dvamosi@sjsomaha.org).

Thank you so much for all you do!
