21 October Letter from Mr. Kelly
Friday of the Twenty-ninth Week in Ordinary Time
Dear SJS Catholic School Community,
We look forward to seeing you all at Parent/Teacher Conferences next Thursday. Every family is expected to be represented at a conference. If you need help signing up, please contact the office or email the teacher. These conferences are an important step in establishing goals and expectations for the next quarter. Our excellent SJS staff will share how your student has progressed this quarter and any areas of emphasis for the future. So, there is no school on the 27th or the 28th.
As we finished up our high school recruitment visits, a common theme from those high schools is how much they enjoy have SJS graduates in their school, and how well-prepared those students are. So, great job SJS! Our emphasis on academic rigor is noticed. We want to continue to challenge our students and have placed this expectation upon them: addition and subtraction facts mastered (able to recall the answer quickly) by the end of 2nd grade, and multiplication and division facts mastered by the end of 4th. Parents may need to help their student reach this expectation.
There have been some colder mornings recently. Fall is here and winter is coming. And we want to take the students outside for recess as often as possible as the weather gets colder. To do this the students need to come prepared for the cold weather. Please make sure you send your student, no matter what grade level, to school with an appropriate coat and accessories like hats and gloves. This will help the students stay safe and help recess to go more smoothly. Also, as you purchase uniform items for the rest of the year, you will want to check the Dennis Uniform website first to make sure that the purchase falls in line with our school policies-

A special thank you goes out to our Athletic Association. Often this group can be forgotten as much of their work goes on behind the scenes. But, without this group, our students would not be able to enjoy all the athletic opportunities that exist at SJS. And sports are an important outlet and skill developer for many of our kids. So, thanks to the SJS Athletic Association for all that you do.
“Givetober” runs one more week! And we are approximately $800 off of our $2000 goal. Just a reminder, all donations over the next week will be matched by a generous donor. So, your $20 donation actually becomes a $40 donation! And, all of this goes to help our SOAR Dinner which has helped fund many of the nice additions in recent history. When you donate to SOAR you can rest assured that your donation goes directly to the kids at SJS. Thanks for all you do.
Peace,
William Kelly
