20 January Letter from Mr. Kelly
Friday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time
Dear SJS Catholic School Community,
Catholic Schools Week is coming up at the end of the month, and it is always a fun week for the school (a listing of events is in this VBP). One of the aspects of that week that I like best is the sense of gratitude that comes with the week, and the joy for Catholic education that accompanies the events. And it is easy to be joyful at SJS, because we have an outstanding school. We have gifted teachers and staff who work with students so they can reach their full potential. We have talented students who will go out and change the world. We have supportive parents and pastors who want the best for SJS. So, while it might be cold outside, we should be warmed by the idea that SJS is making the world a better place.
Just to help our parents plan- in early February we will begin the registration process for next school year. We appreciate your support and taking care of registration quickly. We open registration to current families first as a courtesy to you and encourage you to take advantage of that opportunity. Some classes fill quickly, and you want to return the forms to secure your place. So prompt attention to registration helps you reserve a spot at SJS, and also helps the school in planning.
And, we want to add as many new families as possible so please spread the word about SJS. A parent referral is our most powerful tool for recruitment. We are planning our Preschool and Kindergarten Roundup for February 17th, this is largely for new families and is not mandatory, but we appreciate you spreading the word. Thanks for your continued support.
February 9th is our 2nd semester Parent/Teacher Conference Day. As in years past, these conferences are not mandatory but can be called by a parent or teacher. Feel free to sign up for a conference if you would like one. Specials teachers are also available. Please be on the lookout for information from the teacher and the online sign-up directions.
Perhaps it is time to look at your student’s uniform for the winter. Kids do grow quickly. Uniforms send the message of solidarity and help us avoid a variety of social issues. Don’t forget to check the Dennis Uniform website before you make a uniform purchase to make sure it meets school requirements.
A few reminders for you:
-The Home and School has a new, fun website full of info. Check it out at- https://www.sjshsa.org/
-You can support our athletics and have a great time at the upcoming Spring Fling on Feb 4th, https://one.bidpal.net/
-If you are done with your parent participation hours, don’t forget to submit a brief email outlining those hours to- parentparticipation@sjsomaha.
Thanks for all you do.
Peace,
William Kelly
