~October Spotlight Skill: Listening

This year we have chosen a handful of meaningful social skills to teach and reinforce, with a goal to build on those over time. We talk about the skills in the morning/afternoon announcements, in Guidance classes, and they are also reinforced in the classroom. Working on these skills at home would also help benefit mastering skills over time.

This month we have been focusing on Listening. Below are the steps provided to practice this skill:

  1. Look at the person who is talking and remain quiet.
  2. Wait until the person is through talking before you speak.
  3. Show that you heard them by nodding, saying 'Okay,' 'That's interesting,' etc.
