~February Spotlight Skills:

This month we will focus on building the skill Disagreeing Appropriately

Disagreeing respectfully with others, especially on issues we’re passionate about, isn’t easy. Disagreeing respectfully requires time and patience. The situation might not go your way but people will consider your opinions if you present them calmly; others will give you the respect you deserve.

Below are the steps provided to practice this skill with your children:

  1. Look at the person.
  2. Use a pleasant voice.
  3. Tell why you feel differently.
  4. Give a reason.
  5. Listen to the other person.

Product Partner's Update:  Thank you to everyone who has sent in product partner's items to school for collections!  If you have not done so for the February collection you are still welcome to send them in.  Here are a few updates since so much has changed since school had started...

- Labels for Learning/Campbell's Soup Labels:  This program has ended and we are no longer able to submit labels, so this collection has stopped.  The school still has some time to redeem the points we have earned, so we will still benefit from the labels everyone turned in up to this point.  Thank you for all the help during this program!!

- HyVee receipts:  The collection period for the hyvee receipts has also ended, and this should start again in the fall for receipts dated September 1 - December 31 of this year.  Thank you for all the receipts that were turned in - you earned over $1000 for our school through this program!!!

- Items we ARE still collecting: Box Tops, Our Family labels, Family Fare receipts, Godfather's Fedoras, and Tyson labels.

- Also remember the free ways our school can benefit from your every day shopping: the Shoparoo app, Box Tops app, Tagg, Amazon Smiles, online shopping through the School Store website (, or if you registered your student last fall).  Contact Jen List at if you have any questions on these.

Thank you for all you have done to support our school!!!

~HOPE Bring HOPE into your family’s finances! Remember that school families purchasing HOPE certificates can get tuition credits – 45% of the profits on the purchased gift cards/certificates go to the school family as credits, when the Sycamore number is provided.  You can also have relatives or friends provide your number to get you more tuition credit.  For St. James school families, the tuition credit is doubled through the St. James Angels of HOPE program.  Some families receive hundreds of dollars.  See the attached HOPE brochure  and visit the HOPE web site today:

~SJS Super Eagle 5K Training Camp will be held 3/19-4/30.  Plan now to attend the information meeting March 6th @ 3:25 in Library.  See flyer for more details
