Lunch Program Update

We are working hard at SJS to spread the word of our fine school.  We have a digital billboard currently on display, which followed two traditional billboards in the area, and soon we will have an advertisement in the Catholic Voice.  And we have a few yard signs left if you still need one.  But we need your help.  Please register as soon as possible- this will allow us to plan and purchase accordingly.  If the online registration is an issue, call us.  If the registration fee is an issue, call us.  And, please spread the word about SJS to anyone that would be a good fit.  We have rescheduled our Open House to the 23rd of this month to allow prospective students the chance to walk around and see the school in action.  We appreciate your continued help and support.  If you plan to attend one of our fish fry dinners we ask that all students are supervised by an adult.

I mentioned earlier this year that there will be a mandatory parent participation program next school year.  This will help the school to keep costs down, and will also encourage parents to get involved.  Some of the specifics of the program to be aware of: we will start with a requirement of 20 hours for the year for a two parent family (10 for single parent).  Any service done for the parish or school will count.  There will be a $100 non-participation fee, or a portion thereof for unfulfilled hours.  I look forward to the new opportunities and involvement this program is sure to bring.

Keep your eye open for information from the teachers about the “Eagle Reader” program.  This will be a reading incentive program for the school.  We know so much can be gained simply by reading.  So each grade will have a set of goals established to be considered an Eagle Reader.  And we hope to have at least half of our students earn this recognition by the end of the 4thquarter.

One of the greatest gifts you can give your children is an understanding of the value of respect.  As adults when we look back at our most powerful good role models, those that show respect stand out.  Too often we hear stories of people who do not show respect for others.  Certainly Jesus provides the most powerful model of respect for us.  We can recall countless stories from the Bible of Jesus demonstrating respect both for himself and all others.  The sinner, the leper, the poor—all were treated with complete respect by Jesus.  The best way to teach a student to respect is by modeling it.  Every word and action is observed by your child.  So it is important that we objectively view our own behavior to ensure it provides the kind of example we wish to set.

Peace,
