Lunch Program Update

I hope your Thanksgiving break was enjoyable and relaxing.  We truly have much to be thankful for at SJS--dedicated teachers, wonderful students, and cooperative parents.  But we also need to express our gratitude to the two supportive parishes that make our school possible.  While your school tuition is an important piece of the financial arrangement at SJS School, without the parishes the school simply would not be possible.  So thank you to the parishioners who are such dedicated supporters of SJS and Catholic education.

Traditions are an important part of the Christmas season.  I know many of my favorite memories of Christmas come from the traditions my family observed when I was a boy.  As holiday time approaches we have the perfect opportunity to create and celebrate meaningful traditions with your family.  Very often, a routine practice or the display of an object that is meaningful to a family can easily become a custom or tradition.  Family values are reflected in the way these traditions are consistently practiced, and these practices can become a lens through which family members view their lives and shape their opinions.  Traditions also are an important way of handing down information, beliefs, and customs.  I hope this Christmas season is a time for your family to develop new traditions that will be fun, and provide comfort and strength to your children well into their adult lives.  The Catholic Church also has many traditions and rituals that provide a special sense of meaning for those who practice them.  The Rosary, Stations of the Cross, and of course the liturgy are just a few of the rituals and rites that have been handed down to us.  As the year progresses I hope these are an important part of your family’s faith life.

Tardiness can also be an issue for students.  From an educator’s perspective, starting the day off right cannot be emphasized enough. If you find yourself running late in the morning more than just occasionally, this can have an impact on your student’s performance at school.  Thank you for your continued support.

Terra Nova scores are now available for pick up in the office.  SJS performed higher than the national average and higher than the diocese average in most categories.  Way to go SJS!  These results will help teachers tailor instruction in the classroom, and also help us in the school improvement process.

We need your help in spreading the word about our great school.  School growth is necessary and vital for our success.  We had a great increase in the number of new students the past two years largely due to parent referrals.  If you have a bulletin board or electronic bulletin board at your workplace, and could place an advertisement for SJS, please contact the office.  Please also contact the office if you know of a family we should invite to recruitment events.

Thanks for all who attended our SOAR Dinner.  It was a successful event and we’re excited about the numbers which we will share soon.  We also certainly accomplished the goal of having some fun and building community.

                                                                                                            Peace,

                                                                                                            William Kelly
